We are excited to announce the Second Jonas Corporate Challenge to continue on the success of our first 2012 Challenge! Starting on Monday, January 7th 2013 ending Sunday, February 17th 2013 the Jonas Software Companies will begin a six(6) week walking challenge.
This Challenge provides an opportunity to participate in a fun and friendly competition and get in shape. Not only will you get the chance to know your co-workers even better, you'll get the opportunity to interact with Jonas employees around the world!
- Employees will create their own teams of five (5) people.
- Companies can enter as many teams as they’d like.
- Each team strives to reach a minimum of 40,000 steps per day or 280,000 per week.
- Every participant that does not have a pedometer will be provided with one to accurately track steps.
- Each day participants report their recorded pedometer steps to their Team Captain.
- The Team Captain is responsible for reporting their team’s progress to your Get Fit Coordinator, organizing walks and motivating the team.
- The Get Fit Coordinator will record the results for your company’s teams on the Challenge website.
- The Challenge website will track results for everyone to peruse and contain tips, recipes and other information.
- The more active a team, the closer they will come to winning the challenge, and the healthier they become!
8,000 Steps per Day – For Real?
8,000 steps may sound like a lot but when put into context you'll quickly see how fast they can add up. Since a challenge is designed to require extra effort, you'll need to consider ways to add more steps into your daily routine.
Here Are A few Suggestions
- Park at the far end of the parking lot at work, your coffee shop and restaurants
- Get off the bus one or two stops before you need to and walk the rest of the way
- Add a walking meeting into your routine. You can accomplish just as much when walking as you do sitting.
- Circle the room when waiting for meetings to start
- Walk to your co-worker’s office or desk instead of emailing them
- Circle your living room during TV commercials
- For those of you that travel a lot, avoid the moving sidewalks and escalators.
Activities such as biking, aerobics and use of elliptical machines also qualify.

Everyone will have a day when they didn't achieve their "goal". Don't worry! Most people are more active and have more leisure time on the weekends, so as long as you make up your steps by the end of the week, you'll be right on track.
Step 2:
Get Ready. You will receive a pedometer to start tracking your steps. Practice makes perfect - the earlier you start the better prepared you will be when the competition begins.
Step 3:
Go! Beginning January 7th through February 17th you will be responsible for walking and tracking a minimum number of steps per day/week.
Step 4:
Have fun, get in shape, and get to know your co-workers even better!
The most rewarding benefits of participating in this challenge will be the transformation in your body and mind. Walking has been proven to help with weight management, stress reduction and improve energy levels. It can also reduce the risk of several conditions including heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes. If that wasn’t enough, you’ll be able to have fun with your colleagues and there will be prizes and awards along the way. From experience, I can tell you the competition can get fierce too!
Note: that the prize for the winning team will be $200 per team member, along with the health benefits associated with the Challenge!
If you have any questions prior to Get Fit Coordinators being assigned at each of Jonas Companies, please contact Danielle Vachon. Over the next few weeks, we will provide a list of all Get Fit Coordinators and their contact information. If you are interested in volunteering to be your Company’s representative, please let your Business Unit Leader and Danielle know.
A note to some of our smaller companies who may have employees who wish to join a team where there aren’t 5 participants, please let Danielle know and we’ll work towards coordinating a team with your help.
Hope to see the same high level of turnout we had with the first Challenge!
